Class 10 computer chapter 1

What is data communication? What are the five components of data communication?

Ans: Data communication is the transmission of digital data between two or more computers and a computer network or data network is a telecommunications network that allows computers to exchange data.

The five components of data communication are:

Message

sender

receiver

Transmission medium &

protocol

differentiate between simplex ,half duplex and full duplex mode...

what is a communication media? differentiate between guided media and unguided media.

Answer:Communication media refers to the means of delivering and receiving data or information.

What is Coaxial Cable ? give some of its practical uses.

answer:A coaxial cable is an electrical cable with a copper conductor and an insulator shielding around it and a braided metal mesh that prevents signal interference and cross talk. Coaxial cable is also known as coax.

Coaxial cable is commonly used by cable operators, telephone companies, and internet providers around the world to convey data, video, and voice communications to customers.

what is a computer network? how is it useful??

answer: A computer network is defined as a system that connects two or more computing devices for transmitting and sharing information.

Computer network is useful because of the following reasons:

1) Easy communication

2) Ability to share files, data and information

3) Sharing hardware and software etc.

what are the advantages and disadvantages of computer network?

advantages of computer network are:

1)easy communication

2)ability to share files data and information

3)sharing hardware and software

4)security

5)speed

disadvantages of computer network are:

1) Breakdowns and possible loss of resources

2) Expensive to build

3) Bandwidth issues

what are the hardware and software components of computer network??

the hardware components of computer network are:

1) computer system

2) connector

3) Network cables

4) Network Interface card

The software components of computer network are:

1) Network operating system

2) Network protocol

define the following terms

Server:

A server is a computer or system that provides resources, data, services, or programs to other computers, known as clients, over a network.

Client:

Client is a node or software program (front-end device) that requests services from a server.

Network operating system:

A network operating system is an operating system designed for the sole purpose of supporting workstations, database sharing, application sharing and file and printer access sharing among multiple computers in a network.

What is a network interface card (NIC)? explain its usage in a computer system

A network interface card (NIC) is a hardware component, typically a circuit board or chip, which is installed on a computer so it can connect to a network.

A network interface card (NIC) provides a computer with a dedicated, full-time connection to a network. It implements the physical layer circuitry necessary for communicating with a data link layer standard, such as Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

 what is the communication protocol??

what are the functions performed by these protocols?

answer:Communication protocols is a system of rules for sending block of data from one node to another node in a network.

The functions performed by communication protocol are:

1) Data Sequencing

2) Data Routing

3) Flow control

4) Error control

what is local area network ? what are its main objectives?

A local area network is a computer network that interconnects computers within a limited area such as a residence, school, laboratory, university campus or office building.

They main objectives of Local Area Network is to link computers together and provide shared access to printers, file servers, and other services in a short distance.

What is WAN? How does it differ from MAN?

answer: A wide area network (WAN) is any network that extends over a large geographic area, usually connecting multiple local area networks (LANs) and Metropolitan Area Network (MANs).

The transmission speed of MAN is faster than WAN. While the transmission speed of WAN is lower than MAN.

Cost of installation of MAN is moderate. Cost of installation of WAN is very high as compared to MAN.

What is a Client-Server Network?

A client-server network is the medium through which clients access resources and services from a central computer, via either a local area network (LAN) or a wide-area network (WAN), such as the Internet.

What is network topology? what are the types of network topology?

Network topology refers to how various nodes, devices, and connections on your network are physically or logically arranged in relation to each other.

what is an star topology draw a neat diagram of bus ,star & ring topology.

Star topology is a network topology in which each network component is physically connected to a central node such as a router, hub or switch.

MODEM (Modulator-Demodulator) is an electronic device that converts a computer's digital signals into specific frequencies to travel over telephone or cable television lines.

A modem is used for transmitting and receiving data over a communication channel, such as twisted-pair telephone lines, coaxial cables, and optical fibres.

What is a Router?

The router is a physical or virtual inter-networking device that is designed to receive, analyze, and forward data packets between computer networks.
