Class 6 chapter 10 (Spreadsheet software)

 a) What is spreadsheet? what are the important features of  spreadsheet?

=Spreadsheet is a software that gives us the ability to enter mathematical formulas ranging from simple arithmetic to complex statistics.

The important features of spreadsheet

are:

i) Spreadsheet allows you to perform calculations on data quickly and accurately.

ii) Spreadsheet recalculates the result of a mathematical formula automatically if you make a change in a value or number in a cell.

iii) Spreadsheets allow you to lay figures out on a grid, calculating and manipulating them visually.

iv) Spreadsheet software gives you the ability to enter mathematical formulas ranging from simple arithmetic to complex statistics.

b) what is Microsoft Excel? why is it so popular?

=MS Excel is a commonly used Microsoft Office application. It is a spreadsheet program which is used to save and analyse numerical data.

Excel is a powerful software for doing simple analytics and helping people make sense of numbers. It is amazingly flexible , versatile  and easy to use by all the people so , it is very popular...

c) what is workbook? how does it differ from worksheet?

=A workbook is a file that contains one or more worksheets to help you organize data.

d) what is a cell and how it is it referred in MS Excel?

A cell is the smallest unit of a spreadsheet, which is formed by the intersection of rows and columns.

It is named by giving the column name at first and then the name of the row. Such as, if any cell is selected belong to column A and row 5, then the cell will be named as A5. The default cell of a spreadsheet is A1.

e) what do you mean by range of cells?

=  A cell range in an Excel worksheet refers to a group or a block of cells which have been selected or highlighted.

f) what are the different types of data that can be entered in MS Excel?

= They are:

1) Numbers

2) Text(labels)

3) Formulas

g) what is formula? what are the different parts of formula?

=A formula is an expression which calculates the value of a cell.

The different parts of formula are:

functions, references, operators, and constants.

h) what is a function? What are the three elements of function?

=Functions are predefined formulas that perform calculations by using specific values, called arguments, in a particular order, or structure.

The three elements of function are:

1) The sign indicates that what follows is a function (formula).

2 The function name, such as SUM, indicates which operation will be performed.

3)The argument, such as (A1:D1) indicates the cell addresses of the values that the function will act on.

i) Write cell references for the following:

i. Cell formed by intersection of row 18, and column Z.

Answer:    Z18

ii. The right most cell in row 32 in a worksheet.

Answer: XFD32
